Swing Plane Board

Allan Cox at Lake Claremont Golf Club

“The Swing Plane Board is designed to illustrate how the golf club would move throughout the golf swing. It shows you the path the club would take both on the takeaway and then on the downswing. It is almost like training wheels for your golf. swing”.

It is particularly helpful for golfers who are blind or who have sight impairment.

SOS Golf Event

Presentation of Cheque to Ron Anderson

A great day was had by all who played in the SOS Golf Event. The weather was perfect, the golf so-so with the result that the Trophy stays in the hands of the SOS.

Nine players took part in the 18-hole Stableford competition with the SOS running out winners 6 to 3.

At the prize-giving SOS generously donated to the WABGA a cheque for $400 to bolster our funds for training and development. Many thanks to SOS President Derek Longhurst and his team of helpers.

Malcolm Elliott of the WABGA team donated 3 prizes to the SOS for the best male, best female, and for the overall worst golfer.

2019 Season

Friday Morning at Wembley Golf Club

The 2019 season started at the beginning of March both at Wembley Golf Club and Lake Claremont Golf Club.

At Wembley the first game was a Player/Caddie Ambrose while at Lake Claremont saw the start of a Ladies League.

Coaching on Short Game skills takes place every Tuesday at Lake Claremont at 12.30 pm. Players are required to play either 5 or 9 holes on the short course before attending the coaching clinic.

Coaching on the long game will start in April at Wembley and Mount Lawley Golf Clubs. Other venues may be added during the year.

Ladies League

Jennifer Weir, Liz Gow, Maureen Crawford, Deanna Minciullo

A Ladies League started at Lake Claremont Golf Club this year to encourage the ladies to play more competitive golf. This it is hoped will lead to improved performance and more enjoyment.

Points will be awarded for attendance each week as well as for Stableford Scores for rounds played on the short 9-hole course. The scores will help pinpoint where players need more help with their game.

At the end of the 2019 season the best player will receive a Trophy. Players can check their ranking by referring to a League Ladder that will be updated each month.

The Ladies League is sponsored by BOC

News from BGA – New Rules of Golf

News from BGA – New Rules of Golf

The governing bodies of golf worldwide have been working on modernising the rules of golf for a number of years. This task is now finalised and the revised rules of golf will come into operation from January 1 2019. All blind golf events played in Australia from that date will be played under the new rules and it is essential that all blind and vision impaired golfers and their caddies become familiar with the changes .

It was hoped to organise seminars or similar to explain the new rules but the truth is that there are not enough of us in one place at one time to make this practical!

There is a huge amount of information available on the internet.

But the best and most reliable source of information is Golf Australia’s website

Use the link under to access the available information

(2019 Rules of Golf ).
https://www.golf.org.au/newrules

This will take you directly to all the information available including “Modified Rules of Golf For Players with Disabilities” which some other websites ignore . There are excellent one minute videos on each major change available -or if you prefer the written word you will find the R&A Power Point on new Rules helpful.

In relation to the modified rules there is one very important change that you should be aware of.

From January 1 , a golfer and/or his/her caddy will not be able to lay a club on the ground to assist in alignment . If this is done each time there will be a 2 stroke penalty! The other major modifications being that a caddy/guide/aide can stand in the line of play and that a blind golfer can still ground his/her club in a bunker still stand -despite some guides to the new rules saying that both are breaches of the rules. This is so for sighted golf but not for blind golf

The new rules may take a bit of getting used to-for example if you forget the new rule and drop the ball from shoulder height just pick the ball up and drop again from knee height

The BGV Victorian Open will be the first major event played under the new rules -I would expect the Rules Official at that event to fully apply the new rules
